My Yoke

I recently learned something interesting about yokes, and this image has been in my mind ever since.

A yoke is a wooden beam used between a pair of oxen to enable them to pull together on a load when working in pairs.

What I recently learned is that these yokes are often carved to fit each individual ox.

This small piece of information has deepened my love for the analogy Christ chose when inviting us to
“Come unto me, all ye that labour and are heavy laden, and I will give you rest.
Take my yoke upon you, and learn of me; for I am meek and lowly in heart: and ye shall find rest unto your souls.
For my yoke is easy, and my burden is light.”
Matthew 11:28-30

This image of Christ carving each individual yoke to fit us perfectly, so that we can pull side by side with Him, is one that I hope will remind you of these promises He has given us that we can find rest.

His ability to strengthen, heal, comfort, and enable is unique to each of our loads, our trials, our heartaches, and our burdens.

He does not help us in a “one size fits all” kind of way. He has carved the perfect yoke for each of us, through His suffering and sacrifice, so that He can help us pull the weight of this world.
