She Reached in Faith

Although this is one of my favorite stories in the New Testament, I’ve hesitated painting it for years. It’s one that has been done a lot, and I wanted to wait until I had a clear vision. 
 
But it started coming to my mind over and over again. I was having multiple people, including my husband, ask if I had ever thought of painting this story. I took that as my sign, and I knew it was time.
 
Once I started I quickly realized I needed to portray two moments. Seconds apart, but each one teaching us something so important about the Lord and ourselves.
 
The moment of reaching. The part that teaches us about ourselves.
 
This woman was dealing with more than just an illness. By the time she reached through the crowd to touch Jesus’ garment, she had already tried everything else that should have fixed her situation. She was tired and desperate, but she found enough faith to make her way through a crowd of people.
She said to herself “if I may but touch his garment, I shall be whole.”
 
It was important for me to show the effort in this small touch. That touch was her giving all she had left to give.  Desperately reaching as far as she could to barley reach far enough to touch the edge His hem. He shouldn’t have even been able to feel it.
