Tired Mother
Tired Mother is an original Fox and Pebble illustration by Malory Fiso
A few months ago I received a request to paint something showing that Christ is there during the everyday moments of motherhood.
More recently I gave an open invitation for you to make requests of what I should paint next, and the top suggestion was for Christ hugging a tired mother.
That’s when my vision for both ideas came together and made this piece feel complete.
Motherhood is both the greatest, most fulfilling calling in the world, and at the same time the most refining, exhausting, and demanding.
Most of the work is often unseen. It asks for constant sacrifice. It requires us to give of ourselves long after we feel there is anything left to give.
And that is exactly where Christ comes in.
He is not waiting to be there until the dishes are done or the children are grown. He is not just there when we finally have a moment to ourselves. He is there in the middle of the everyday moments. In the laundry rooms. The nurseries. The kitchens. The tears. The fatigue. The moments when our patience has run dry and we say to ourselves, “I don’t have anything left.”
Our loving Heavenly Father would never leave us to do such a divine work alone.
Our Savior went through it for you, so that even in the most exhausting, joyful, or mundane moments, you don’t have to be alone.
