The parable of the 10 Virgins teaches us an important lesson: spiritual preparation is built drop by drop through daily devotion and trust in the Savior. It is a personal effort; one that cannot be rushed, borrowed, or given away.
Five women hold lamps bright with oil, a symbol of readiness and commitment. One carries an extra vessel, a quiet testament to diligence and endurance through the long night.
All ten had the appearance of readiness. They showed up in the right place, at the right time, each holding a lamp, but only five had the oil required to endure.
Though one wise virgin reaches toward her unprepared sister in love, their hands do not quite meet. This moment reminds us that faith in Jesus Christ is deeply personal. Our spiritual oil is not transferable. Each of us must nourish our own relationship with Christ and tend our own light.
The wise stand turned toward the door, full of hope and expectancy. The unprepared sit still, caught in the weight of delay, the ache of regret, and the quiet urgency of what can no longer be borrowed.
This painting is an invitation - to follow Christ with intention, to live ready and watchful, and to reflect honestly on our own lamps. Are you prepared to meet Him?
